Bright yellow. Aromas of apricot nectar, honey and marzipan, lifted by a spicy candied ginger nuance. Lush, round and very sweet, offering palate-coating pit fruits and honey flavors that spread out steadily on the back half. In a decidedly rich, decadent style, leading to a sweet, spice-tinged finish that lingers impressively. - Vinous Media
2012 Renwood Amador Ice, Ice Wine, Amador County 375 mL
Manufacturer: Renwood Winery
The vintage of 2012 had more of a normal weather pattern. Unlike 2010 and 2011, the harvest proceeded without any significant rainfall. There had been fears of another short harvest due to cool weather in the critical months of April and May 2011 when bud development for the next year occurs. We need not have worried as a large crop was forthcoming. Many growers had 20 to 30% more fruit than their averages and much higher than in 2010 and 2011. Still there was plenty of heat to ripen this crop and a long enough season to get everything picked and through fermentation.
Manufacturer: Mount Palomar Winery
Brand: Mount Palomar
Since 1978 Mount Palomar has produced handcrafted sherry wines in our outdoor aging Solera. This is a forgotten wine making method in California that harkens back to an earlier era. Using the traditional Palomino grape and patient aging of at least five years under the sun creates rich hazelnut and caramel flavors and a long smooth finish. Many people enjoy this Sherry as a simple aperitif or with shortbread cookies or roasted almonds, but it is also a good match for Baklava and similar desserts. It contains 12% residual sugar and 18% alcohol.
